Visit to a magnificent viewpoint in a particular context: the best place where you can observe Amalfi from above is near the amalfitan cemetery.
The towns of the coast coexist with an area that has unique characteristics, such as the lack of space. Well, for this reason, the Amalfi cemetery was placed 80 meters above the level where the city center stands.
Obviously we do not recommend a visit to the cemetery, but to stop before it, in order to enjoy what is possible to see from this magnificent viewpoint, which offers a complete view of the gulf, the cathedral, the lemon terraces, etc.
Walking along the Amalfi seafront in the direction of Atrani (therefore having the beach on your right), you will find, on the left (just before the big bend with which you leave Amalfi) Piazza Municipio (Municipo Square).
As soon as you enter in the square you will immediately find an arch that leads to a tunnel: going straight inside the tunnel you will reach an incredible lift (one of the highest in Italy) through which you will climb 80 meters in 48 seconds!
One of the most beautiful panoramas of the city of Amalfi awaits you and a truly special experience between the tunnel (also sui generis) and the lift.
The lift works from 08:00 to 24:00 and the ticket (to use the elevator) costs 3€ for the ascent, while the descent is always free.
It is very nice also to go down on foot, enjoying the silence of the small streets outside the centre, but it is good to know that you have to do 400 steps!
