Salerno Metro (english)

Outside of the city centre there are the San Giovanni di Dio and Ruggi d’Aragona hospitals (the main hospital in Salerno), and the Arechi Stadium (practically one in front of the other one).

From the center of Salerno, the hospital and the stadium can be reached via a metro service (specifically, it is a regional train that functions as a metro) that from the central station (which is located in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, at the end of Corso Vittorio Emanuele) goes to the station called: “Salerno Stadio Arechi.

Also due to the fact that it is located in Via San Leonardo, the hospital is commonly called: “Ospedale San Leonardo”; this set of information is important because it helps us to orient ourselves on the Trenitalia website; on this website, in fact, it will be necessary to:

  • first of all look for a normal regional train (and not a metro);
  • set the departure station as: “SALERNO” (the central station is not called Salerno-Centro, but simply Salerno);
  • set as arrival station: “SALERNO STADIO ARECHI / SAN LEONARDO”.

As we can see from the photo, the metro service operates every 30 minutes throughout the day. The last ride is between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM.

Leaving the station: “Salerno Stadio Arechi”, the stadium is on the right and the hospital on the left; both are about 3 minutes walk from the station.
